It took 2 or 3 days to adjust to the time difference in Japan. Tokyo is 14 hours ahead of Chicago, so it can be kind of a shock. We FaceTimed with our family at night, to wish them good morning. We FaceTimed every morning to tell them good night. (By the way, huge props to Apple for providing a rock-solid service; video chatting from the other side of the world in high quality with no lag was unreal) But we got used to the time difference, we were staying out late and getting up at a respectable hour.
However...
Coming back has proved to be a completely different story. By tonight, I would have been back a week, and I still can't acclimate. I only sleep 3 hours at a time. I'm forced to work in the wee hours, and socializing has been non-existent. I'm writing this at 10:00 AM and I'm tired again. And I haven't seen the last 3 episodes of Mad Men.
Sheesh.
