Pete Campbell: The Most Interesting Man on TV

If you're watching Mad Men, and are constantly worried about the state of Draper's love life, how good a mother Joan will be, or if Sterling will ever be satisfied... you're watching it wrong. Mad Men is really about Pete Campbell. He is, by far, the most interesting character on TV's most compelling show.
Pete is incredibly complex. Truly. Draper is driven by some desire to please a mother he never knew. Peggy is motivated to prove that the fairer sex can be just as tough. Pryce is a man caught between clashing cultures. But Pete, what's his story?
We know he wants to be better than everyone else. He has clawed his way to the top, but still isn't respected. He has a pretty wife, but nothing spectacular when compared to Don and Roger's trophies. He has a great house, but it isn't in the city. He is never pleased because nothing he does impresses anyone else. He tries to have it all, but has nothing to show for it. The episodes that revolve around him are utterly haunting, a warning to us on how we should live our lives. What we should strive for. What we should value.
PS
Pete is such a good character, the episodes that aren't about him, usually feature him in a more comedic role. Watch how he walks into a room, with a goofy smile across his face. Or how he reacts to important news, where his is most likely the last person to receive it. His obliviousness is devastating funny.
