Living Without Kanye

A few months ago, for whatever reason, I decided I've had enough of Kanye. Now I've been a Kanye fan for a while now, I remember downloading mix tapes before The College Dropout came out. I was a huge supporter and pushed him on everybody who would listen. He was in regular rotation on my college radio show. And I've celebrated every album he's released with great enthusiasm. Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation may be the best 3 album start to a career in a while. I even loved 808s and Heartbreak, and admired his ability to step outside the box and try new things. And when he acted like an ass, I justified it, by arguing that the whole entertainment system is a joke, and he was the only one who got it.
But then things got old. That album with Jay-Z was horrible. It's like they weren't aware of their surroundings. The country was in a recession and Obama was getting crapped on and they made an album about going to Paris. And Kanye's act got stale. It's one thing to be trendy when you do cool things, it's another to insist people think what your doing is cool.
So, I deleted all of his songs from my iTunes library, even stuff he was featured on. And there's some great stuff there, stuff I played the hell out of. But I don't miss it. Not yet. I have the memories of those songs and the sense of invulnerability they gave me, and that's good enough. I'm not opposed to listening to his future work, but it's going to have to be something pretty special to hold my attention.
